LEFT2RIGHT shines a bright spotlight on a variety of topics that tend to be ‘polarizing’. But are they? Uh, yeah, they probably are. But can we find some common ground on many of these?
WHY LEFT2RIGHT.ORG? News aggregators tend to come in two varieties: (1) as ‘echo chambers’ favoring a particular viewpoint, or (2) as broad-based sites that are top-heavy with the few media outlets flush enough to pay for a featured spot. LEFT2RIGHT surfaces opinions from across the spectrum, and gives smaller independent sources as much weight as the big players.
A DEEP DIVE. Click on a tag to produce a comprehensive yet focused reading list, a series of ‘blurbs’, each one sending you right to the source on the left, right or center, and sometimes on the fringes.
L2R VOTING BOOTH. In many of the blurbs, a quote is extracted from the source, acting as a springboard for discussion. The voting booth . icon leads to a provocative survey question and a commenting forum, where perhaps we can have a meeting of the minds, or at least agree to agreeably disagree.
FACTGRAPHS are re-usable responsive verifiable data visuals with neutral captions. They too are designed as springboards for discussion, to be embedded in the work of bloggers, educators, independent media (actually all media), researchers, businesses, advocates and opponents. They can be freely re-used under a Creative Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0) license.
DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA for a topic area or some materials that we should include in the reading lists? Please let us know.
